When we asked Mia last year how she wants to celebrate her birthday, she suggested that we just have a staycation. I initially thought of having a “small” playdate/party with her friends but there was not much time to prepare and organize a party. So, I just tried to look for a hotel where we can celebrate her 5th birthday – we were contemplating on booking Shangri-La in Makati since they have “glamping” setup for kids, but we found a better deal at the newly opened Shangri-La at the Fort in BGC. I got very excited since the hotel has an indoor play area exclusive to members and in-house guests – Adventure Zone – and it will be a great surprise for my little girls!
We didn’t tell Mia that we have booked a hotel, we thought it would be great to just surprise her! So after her Friday class and birthday celebration with her classmates, we picked her up and off we went to our extended weekend staycation.
Shang’s beautiful lobby
Our room before the girls ransacked it!
Honestly the room is not as spacious as I thought it would be, but the interiors were luxurious and the amenities are modern. There was a Nespresso machine – which was a big plus – and the work desk had a harman/kardon speaker which you can connect your devices to for music inside your room.
The bathroom is modern and well-lit, and the toiletries were from L’occitane. There was a bath tub so the girls enjoyed their bubble baths with their new LOL Surprise dolls.
We booked a room that has access to the Horizon club lounge. We always try to book a club room so we can have access to the club lounge and have all-day refreshments, high tea and cocktails. It’s always a good deal for us since the kids would always ask for drinks and snacks – and we also get to use the executive meeting rooms in cases we need to work or take calls. Michael and I also take the opportunity to have a few drinks and cocktails during cocktail hour (even just for 15-30 minutes!) so we can relax a bit.
Here are some photos:
Michael and I had a busy week – we had to finish off some work before celebrating that weekend. We worked at the lounge, and since we are entitled to use their meeting rooms at no cost, we took our calls in the private meeting rooms.
Mia and I also had our “date” in the lounge while Mika and Michael were taking a nap. Mia had milk while I had coffee. The lounge staff served us pastries and nuts.
The kids also prefer to have breakfast in the lounge as it is more peaceful and less crowded than the breakfast restaurant. I totally agree that it’s much more peaceful – but the disadvantage is that the spread is very limited. If you are a fan of hotel breakfast buffets, I suggest you do not take your breakfast at their club lounge.
I think the best thing about this hotel is their service and the little details that made our stay pleasant. The staff prepared a cake and card for Mia – which my little girl loved. There were also fresh fruits and treats like truffles and dried fruits which we snacked on when we were too lazy to go up the lounge.
All in all our family enjoyed our two-night stay – we had fun lounging, eating and shopping around the area. On Mia’s birthday we had lunch and dinner with our families just within BGC too. It was definitely a very fun weekend for our little princesses! I’ll blog about the girls’ fun time at the Adventure Zone next time.
‘Til our next staycation review!
